"Officers from the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Bureau have raided the warehouse of a suspected illegal wildlife trader in the city of Palembang in South Sumatra." The raid uncovered over 14 tonnes of the endangered pangolin, packed frozen ready for export, and led to the arrest of 14 suspects.

Tiger and Leopard Trade Arested by police and Forest Guard

Joint operation between police, forest guard, and supported by wildlife forum include WCS, JAAN, IAR, LASA, and ProFauna has arrested 4 tiger skins and other protected wildlife suspects in Rawa Bening precious stone markets, Jakarta (Thursday/February 12, 2009). Police arrested Dp, Mr, Mz, and Sf and confiscated 61 pieces tiger skins and skull, 1 leopard taxidermist and head skin, 5 pieces sun bear skins, tiger claws, and elephant teeth. Tiger and leopard killed approximately more than 7 individuals from those evidences.

Terdakwa Denti Halawa (31) yang ditangkap oleh tim SPORC (Satuan Polhut Reaksi Cepat) Brigade Macan Tutul di Bulan Juni karena hendak memperjualbelikan 2 ekor anak Harimau Sumatera (Panthera tigris sumatrae) dijatuhi hukuman penjara 2 tahun 10 bulan dan denda 1 juta rupiah. Vonis ini lebih rendah 2 bulan dibandingkan dengan tuntutan Jaksa Penuntut Umum Hendrik Sembiring, SH. yang menuntut terdakwa selama 3 tahun.

WCS’s Wildlife Crime Unit played a key role in arrests


NEW YORK (SEPTEMBER 2, 2008) – The Wildlife Conservation Society announced today a successful raid by Indonesian authorities that resulted in four arrests for selling illegal tiger parts.

The raid, part of recent stepped-up efforts by Indonesian authorities to control illegal wildlife trade, marks the tenth arrest for trading in tiger parts in three months, which equals the total amount of arrests for the previous three years.  All cases are now being prosecuted by the Indonesian authorities.
